New Moon in Capricorn

new moon workout capricorn charlene atkins @charleneeatkins

Instead of the ‘new year, new me’ approach, how about ‘new year, better me’? Why change who you are when you can make small changes to habits, attitudes, and thought processes that result in bigger triumphs in the end? And with the Capricorn New Moon (January 16, 2018 @2124), the intentions and goals you set for 2018 are ready to take root.

New Moons are used to plant seeds that will be sowed with a corresponding Full Moon six months later (June 28, 2018 @0053). If you are willing and are open to positive changes in your life, the time is now. If you are still unclear of what direction to take, try my New Moon Magic ritual and explore what you want to achieve by mid-year. And don’t hesitate to think big. Capricorn’s energy is nothing but determined and focused. Under the magic of the Moon, where can you find you power and control?

With a realistic and practical approach, Capricorn puts progress first. But without a clearly laid out plan, how far will you really get? Even the most challenging mission can be completed with Capricorn’s focused and disciplined energy. Know what to do and how to get things done under this lunation.

When working out with the alchemy of this new moon, I feel focusing on rooting ourselves is important. The following stretch sequence is a great way to stretch out our legs, back, and spine for a strong foundation. In yoga, these poses are used to activate your root chakra and and ground yourself. I suggest holding each stretch for 10-12 breaths, and to repeat on each side when needed.

  • Tree Pose
  • Eagle Pose
  • Mountain Pose
  • Downward-Facing Dog
  • Wide-Legged Forward Bend

How you want to incorporate this into your current fitness program is at your own will. It is highly recommended you speak with your licensed physician before you begin any new workout plan. Address any of your concerns with a medically licensed professional, and if you have any injuries or limitations, discuss an alternative.

Cancer Full Moon

full moon in cancer charlene atkins @charleneeatkins

Slow, steady, and secure. The Cancer Full Moon welcomes us as we welcome the New Year. The feminine energy of this Cancer moon will renew feelings of what brings us home, gives us comfort, and reconnects us to our emotional desires. Home is where the heart is.

Cancer is a water sign ruled by the Goddess Moon. Feminine energies of patience, compassion, romance, and creativity under this supermoon will be magnified. Use this time to strengthen bonds of what connects you to your inner goddess. Recall that energy of a Full Moon is used to rid yourself of what no longer serves your greater purpose.

Use the first two weeks of this new year to nest and be with loved ones. Hole yourself up in your own shell and take care of numero uno. As a mother myself, if momma isn’t okay, nothing else really is. Root yourself in what makes you feel secure. Because wellness magic doesn’t always have to be a sweat sesh, try the following innercise routine (aka ritual). Self care is everything, so #doyoubooboo.

  • Draw yourself a bath with epsom salt, rose petals, and essential oils.
  • Light candles and incense.
  • Pour yourself a glass of wine or brew a cup of tea.
  • Wash away what no longer serves you.
  • Journal, if you’d like, and write about what makes you feel at home.

Sun In Capricorn Workout

sun in capricorn charlene atkins @charleneeatkins

The Sun enters Capricorn on December 21, on the same day as the Winter Solstice. We also welcome the New Year with the Sun in this sign, which seems fitting for new goals and resolutions as Capricorn is the sign of stability, ambition and goals. Think long-term, you should feel more motivated and grounded with a clearer picture of what direction to take.

Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, the most domineering planet of them all. Saturn’s capacity for discipline and responsibility makes the loftiest goals attainable. With a practical approach and a natural persistence, Capricorn can get things done.

When it comes to fitness and working out, Capricorns want to know they have accomplished something by the end of their sweat sesh, but they also understand that hard work pays off. Capricorn craves structure, discipline, stability and results. As Capricorn falls at the start of the new year, a slow and steady start is the best way to approach their fitness goals.

That is why for this Sun sign workout an eight week 5K training program is the perfect way to harness Cap’s energy. By setting a goal that requires discipline and persistence, as well as a visible finish line, willful determination will be rewarded. Capricorn knows things take time and that success will not be accomplished overnight.

I am a regular runner, and running is one of my favorite ways to get outdoors and feel free (hello Sagittarius). This training plan is for someone who is just starting out, so however you want to incorporate this into your current fitness program is at your own will. It is highly recommended you speak with your licensed physician before you begin any new workout plan. Address any of your concerns with a medically licensed professional, and if you have any injuries or limitations, discuss an alternative.

Also, don’t push yourself past what you know your body is capable of. Run at a pace that you are comfortable with; this pace is different for everyone. Walk when you need to. And if the weather permits, get outside! You can also start on a treadmill. What matters is the most is that you just get started.

New Moon in Sagittarius Workout

sun sign workout sagittarius charlene atkins @charleneeatkins

The New Moon in Sagittarius (Monday, December 18, 2017 0131 EST) may have us all pondering over where do we go from here. With both Saturn's kiss of death, err goodbye, and Mercury in retrograde all happening in the Sagittarian realm, the need to be free screams. However, there's no point in trying to fight it, this is an important time of growth.

As an eternal optimist and explorer, Sagittarius strongly desires to expand the world, open our eyes to something new and help us understand what lies beyond the horizon. However, any emotional baggage we still have packed can hold us back. And do you really need that fear and negativity where you are going?

This New Moon is the perfect time to open up and let go of what has been holding you down for the past year.

New Moons mean new beginnings. It's a time to reflect and renew. This is the last New Moon before the New Year, and with everything you have learned about yourself over the course of the past twelve months, this is the perfect time to focus on who you are destined to be in 2018. What are your intentions?

The following New Moon workout focuses on release. What have you been holding on to? And do you want to bring it into the New Year with you? Or you maybe you have been on the go more than usual, especially around the holiday season. Have you taken time for yourself?

This stretch sequence can be done as needed and can be incorporated into your fitness journey as you like. Hold each stretch for 10-12 breaths and repeat on each side. Repeat the sequence up to four times. You know your body, listen to it. As you breathe in and out, focus on what you want to receive and manifest in the new year. Try this sequence before a New Moon ritual so that with each breath, comes clarity.

Note that it is highly recommended that you speak with your licensed physician before you begin any new fitness programs. Address any of your concerns with a medically licensed professional, and if you have any injuries or limitations, discuss an alternative.

If you're interested in learning more about your own personalized cosmo inspired workout, please email me. All payments are currently processed through Venmo.

On December 21, the Sun enters Capricorn. Check back on how this transition can propel you forward. Capricorn knows how to do things and how to get things done.

Death and Transformation

death and transformation charlene atkins @charleneeatkins

This morning I drew a card with a snake and then Death not by coincidence. Death signifies transformation, a new life emerging. Really, like a snake shedding its skin.

Saturn leaves Sagittarius after spending the last three years in its wild fields. Since arriving in Sagittarius in December 2014 I have learned to adult the hard way thanks to Saturn. As a Sag, I don't want to grow up. I want to be the youngest I'll ever be, every day. But Saturn, being the authoritative and mature body it is, has pushed me to see life from a more practical view.

Sagittarius is scattered, restless, optimistic and is always looking for more, while Saturn is more structured and defined. Saturn knows its limits while Sag knows none. However, if opposites attract than this is a healthy relationship. It it is an ideal time for personal growth.

As a Sagittarius myself, things have been happening in a pretty epic way. And if what doesn't kill you makes you stronger, here I am. Change happens, but adapting to that change takes a conscious effort. Moving forward means being honest with yourself and sometimes the truth hurts.

There are still lessons to learn in the last moments of Saturn's visit and coincidentally the New Moon in Sagittarius. The moment in between what you once were and who you are becoming now is where the dance of life really takes place. This death, this transformation, this shedding of skin...will only reveal your authentic self.

I am standing at the edge of wonder where I no longer live behind hurt. I've denied myself to feel pain, but it is no longer buried. There is beauty in the ugly I've concealed, and now it is apart of who I am.

Moonly As F*ck

moonly af charlene atkins @charleneeatkins

I was thrown off track and out of orbit. The past two weeks have been a giant mind fuck. And currently, with Mercury in retrograde while in Sagittarius, it's been crazy intense for me.

After the New Moon in Scorpio, the Sun shifting into Sagittarius plus all of the planetary action leading up to Mercury Retrograde and this past Sunday's Full Moon in Gemini, it's difficult for me to even verbalize what I have gone through emotionally, spiritually, and soulfully. It's three days post Full Moon and the intensity of that super moon has finally chilled. I got a good night's rest and woke up today feeling refreshed and a little more clear minded.

My thoughts are still scattered, but I'm processing it all. First, it seems that I am fully feeling emotions that I blocked out or masked after my dad died in 2007. Even the pain of a love lost is starting to resurface, plus what a true love felt like. This leads my to next point: my eat, pray, love journey of Tulum finally culminated.

In Shibalba, a voice whispered to me and an energy overcame me; I was compelled to act upon that. I am forever thankful that I did. I've been gifted new eyes to see things from a different perspective and am learning to become more aware. I am getting my power back.

If anything, the past couple of weeks have brought a lot of closure. With 2017 coming to it's end, and with Mercury in retrograde, this is the perfect time to reflect, reassess, renew...emphasis on the re-, before the new year. It's time for me to forgive myself and forgive others. It's time to let go of ill feelings, and to find my power and use it to rule 2018 as the Goddess I was born to be.

The influence the Universe has on you, as well as what you influence on the Universe, is compelling, forceful, and persuasive. Act in a way that lights your fire, ignites your soul, and arouses a desire that you will forever seek. Even when it feels like you have been trucking through a field of mud, keep going. Your truth is just beyond the horizon.

Full Moon Magic

full moon magic charlene atkins @charleneeatkins

As the Moon is fully illuminated on the Earth’s side, there are very potent powers to magic with. As the New Moon is used to set new intentions, the Full Moon has magic that is better used for release. The Universe has heard your voice of desire (so be careful of what you wish for), so have faith that your wishes will come true.

Before you begin, it is v important to use the magic of the moon with a grateful heart. Leading up to this powerful moment,  you may feel that your cup runneth over; you are full of life and love - breathe it in. You may also feel more energized and restless. Hopefully you have taken the time to meditate while absorbing this almost chaotic energy.

The best time to use Full Moon magic are the 24 hours before and after the Moon is 100% illuminated. (That’s why it’s important to note the time of a Full or New Moon.) You have a total of 48 hours for full moon magic and ritual. And this overwhelming surge in energy means it is time to take action.

However, to move forward you need to release anything and everything that no longer serves you. Whether it’s a bad habit or behavior, a friend or foe, a lover or relationship, even a thought or a situation, it’s time to let it go. The Full Moon is a lunar climax, so revel in the moment and release that explosive energy, then allow yourself to rest.

Below are  many different release rituals to use with the Full Moon. There is no right or wrong way to harness moonly powers. You should always do what is right for you, so what I am about to share is only a suggestion. Always go with what works for you and what you are comfortable with.

Before you begin any ritual, make sure you have all of the tools you will need. There’s nothing like getting ‘in the mood’ only to realize you forgot a valuable tool and it kills the vibe.

Suggested Full Moon Magic tools:
  • pen
  • paper
  • white candle/s
  • sage, incense, Palo Santo
  • salt
  • water

Find a quiet place where you will not be interrupted. Try to get outside if you can. Feel Mama Earth under you and the Goddess Moon above you. Otherwise, find a window that faces the Moon and let the powerful light surround you and your area.

To start, always cleanse your area - burn incense, sage, or Palo Santo. You never know what kind of bad juju or stagnant energy surrounds you. Light a white candle and protect your space.

Once you have found and cleansed your space, here are different ways to release what no longer serves you:
  • Write: let the words escape you in no coherent way. Start writing and see what you’ve been holding on to.
  • Cry: I tend to be very emotional during the Full Moon, and sometimes a good cry is what I need to empty myself.
  • Bathe/shower: Add some salt, flower petals, essential oils and wash it all away.
  • Sweat: Workout, have sex, sit in a sauna. Rid yourself from the inside out of what no longer serves you.
  • Burn: not yourself, but things and thoughts you don’t want/need to be the best version of you. Use the flame of your white candle and watch your negative energy burn away. *Always use caution while using fire. Be responsible and burn in a safe place (a bowl, fireplace, fire pit, etc.) and have something readily available to douse the flame if it becomes dangerous.
  • Combination of it all: write it out, have sex, then take a bath.

When you have completed your ritual, end in prayer or meditation. Then allow yourself the time to rest. You may only need a good night’s sleep or the time until the New Moon to refresh. Move forward at your own pace.

Always do what works for you. Intentions are invaluable, and if you have a quiet mind and a calm soul, the Universe’s answer will always be in accordance to yours.
